Christmas tree recycling

We will collect your real Christmas tree for recycling on a scheduled collection day for your street between Monday 9 January and Friday 20 January 2017.

This service is free and you do not require a garden waste contract to have your tree collected and recycled.

Check tree collection day

Live in a flat?

If you live in a block of flats we ask you take your Christmas tree to a drop-off point. If this is not possible we will collect trees left in your communal waste area.

What you need to do

You should leave your tree outside your property in a place that does not block the pavement, ideally next to your recycling containers, on collection day.

If you miss this day, any trees left out will be collected as part of your refuse collection on your normal collection day but may not be recycled.

We will not collect your tree if it is:

  • Plastic/not real
  • Still decorated
  • In soil or a pot/stand

Drop-off points

You can also take your tree to one the drop-off points listed below:

  • Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre - (during opening hours only)
  • Barn Elms Sports Centre, SW13 0DG (opposite Barnes Rugby Centre)
  • Squires Garden Centre car park, TW2 5PA (during opening hours only)
  • Old Deer Car Park - TW9 2RA
  • Ham Street Car Park - TW10 7RS

Reusing your Christmas tree

If you buy a tree that has been grown in a container or potted with its roots intact, plant it in your garden after Christmas. Alternatively, transfer it into a bigger pot so the roots have room to grow and use it again next year.

If you no longer want your artificial tree please consider extending its life by donating it to a local group or charity shop.
