Garden chemicals and household hazardous waste
Many products that are regularly used in and around the home, are classed as hazardous, for example fluorescent lights and cleaning products. These products need to be disposed of safely to avoid harming the environment.
Hazardous products can be taken to Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, Townmead Road Kew to be disposed of safely except asbestos.
Check if you have any hazardous wastes within your home or garden please select the following areas for lists of products and hazardous substances that may be found:
- Inside the home
- In the garage
- The garden shed
- Electrical or electronic equipment such as televisions
Things to remember when disposing of hazardous wastes at the Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre
- Never put hazardous waste into the general waste or into recycling.
- Always keep products in their original containers.
- Place waste in the designated hazardous waste area, or if you are uncertain, please ask a member of staff
- If you have a product that is not labelled, please see a member of staff. Never leave an unidentified waste, it could cause an accident later.
- If you are uncertain about the waste, qualified staff are on site to assist you.

Petrol and diesel
If you are bringing petrol or diesel to Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre in Kew please report to the office and remember:
- Do not mix petrol or diesel with the waste engine oil
- Be advised that some containers you have used may not be returned to you
