Christmas safety tips
Throughout Christmas 2007, Richmond upon Thames Community Safety Partnership ran Operation Christmas Presence. This initiative was designed specifically to combat theft and anti-social behviour throughout the festive season.
The campaign intended to put across the message to residents, and visitors to the borough, that everone must contribute towards making Christmas a happier time for all.
Borough Commander, Det Chief Supt Rick Turner, said:
“It’s important for residents to take responsibility for their property and possessions whether at home, out shopping or socialising.
“Many of the thefts and burglaries we investigate could be prevented and it is hugely frustrating that residents still leave doors and windows open or valuables on show.
”We also urge people to behave responsibly when out celebrating. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Keep your property safe this Christmas
- Keep your purchases out of sight - if they can be seen, thay can be stolen
- Take all your valuables with you when you leave your car - the glove compartment is one of the first places a thief will look
- At home, make sure all your doors and windows are secure
- Security mark valuable Christmas gifts before you wrap them
- Don't leave Christmas gifts in garages or sheds
- If your Christmas tree is in a window, don't put gifts around it before Christmas morning.
