Stories & Shadows!

Join us for a week of workshops inspired by our new Stables Gallery exhibition. We will explore light, shadows and projection as well as drawing and painting inspired by the stories of Orleans House.

We offer a range of full and half day workshops for ages 0 to 17. Work with professional artists specialising in a range of different techniques from drawing, painting and print-making to sculpture and textiles.

Animals in Action for ages 4+ Work with artist Michelle Reader to make your own stick puppets inspired by Eadweard Muybridge's famous photographs of animals in motion.

Wednesday 31 May 10am to 3pm Discovering Light for ages 6+ Work with artist Dawn Smithers and use cellophane and tissue paper to explore colour and light and use the overhead projector. Then create your own light sculpture to take home.

10am to 3pm Exploring Symmetry for ages 9+ Work with artist Caroline AreskogJones to create your own drawings and paintings inspired by pattern, landscape symmetry and text.

Thursday 1 June 10am to 3pm Draw a Story for ages 6+ Work with artist Josie Dick and explore the history of Orleans House. We will explore and map the area of the house that once stood here and create drawings and collages about the characters that came to live here.

10am to 3pm Psychedelic Architecture for ages 9+ Work with artist Morgan Sinton-Hewitt to explore paper construction and projection mapping. Use paper and card to construct and model a mini town and play with light and colour to project onto it.

Friday 2 June 10am to 3pm Moving Imaginations for ages 6+ Work with artist Morgan Sinton-Hewitt and be inspired by abstract art, movement and shadow-making.

10am to 3pm Sensory Objects for ages 9+ Work with artist Ursula Kelly and go on a scavenger hunt around the gallery grounds in search of materials to make your own sensory objects. Use mixed media to create artworks inspired by found objects and the history of our site.

10.30am to 12.30pm See Saw: Weekly drop-in sessions for under 5s and their carers See Saw allows children to learn, play and explore in our multi-sensory sessions designed to encourage creativity, curiosity and develop skills in communication, co-ordination and social interaction. Sessions will include music, play materials, soft play, creative activities, stories and rhyme time in a relaxed informal environment.

Sunday 4 June 2 to 3.30pm Sunday Afternoon Art: Drawing Dreamscapes for ages 4+ and their families

Take a look at our new Stables Gallery exhibition inspired by the jungle, other worlds and dreams. Create your own dreamscape diorama using paper, print and sculpture.

Complimentary tickets are available for our family programme to those who are unemployed, receiving benefits or otherwise eligible.
