The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is divided by the river Thames into two constituencies, Twickenham and Richmond Park. Richmond Park also takes in some parts of Kingston.
These constituencies are represented by two Members of Parliament elected in General Elections.
The Borough is divided into 18 wards, each represented by three local Councillors. These Councillors are elected every four years in Local Elections.

Section 6 of the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 postponed the next Parliamentary Constituencies boundary review until 2018 with effect from 23 April 2013.

Regulations require all local authorities to review their polling districts and polling places every four years.
In accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, every Council in England and Wales must undertake and complete a review of all of the polling districts and polling places in its area within a 16 month period commencing from 1 October 2013.
The last public consultation for this review ran from 1 October to 8 November 2013.
In 2009, proposals were received to change the name of two wards. These were the subject of a public consultation and then debated by Council who determined that the proposal to change the name of Hampton Wick and Fulwell and Hampton Hill wards be rejected.
