Free virtual information event for EU citizens

Release Date: 01 June 2020

A free virtual public information event for EU citizens living in the borough of Richmond will be held online on June 16 at 2.30pm.

Attendees will be able to get updates on the latest Brexit developments and find out what steps they need to take to protect their future in the UK.

The webinar is for any EU citizen who lives, works or studies in Richmond borough.

The event is delivered by Citizens Advice Richmond as part of a package of support, funded by the Council, aimed at enabling EU residents to get impartial, expert advice on nationality matters or the impact of the Government’s proposals and options available for them.

Although the event is free you do need to register to attend. You can also sign up for e-updates from Citizens Advice Richmond.

In addition, European citizens are reminded that the deadline to apply for settled status is: 30 June 2021. In Richmond, there have been 14,560 applications so far.

If you, and/or your children, are a citizen of a European Union country, a European Economic Area country (Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway) or Switzerland, you and your family can apply now for the Government’s settled or pre-settled status scheme. Settled status or pre-settled status will ensure your continued right to stay in the United Kingdom and will ensure you continue to have the same access to healthcare, benefits and pensions you currently have.

GOV.UK has more details and information about eligibility.

Cllr Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said:

“It is vital that EU27 citizens living in the borough make sure that they know about their rights throughout this transition period.

“I know the EU citizens living in our borough still have questions about the process and steps they need to take to secure your future in the United Kingdom and hopefully this info event will answer some of those questions.

“And remember, you have friends here at Richmond Council. We know the value you bring to our communities and we are determined to support you throughout the process.”
