Full of Life Funds for organisations working with older people across the borough!
9 August 2021
Organisations and groups who work with older people are invited to apply for £250 of funding to help celebrate International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) or Silver Sunday (the national version) in early October.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has meant that Richmond Council has been unable to plan for a large scale, in-person Full of Life Fair this Autumn, as in previous years. As such, it has launched the Full of Life Fund to allow organisations and groups across the borough to bring people together through their own smaller-scale celebrations.
Organisations and groups just need to outline how they plan on using the money to celebrate IDOP and how these celebrations support one of the five ways to wellbeing (to connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and to give).
Ideas for this might include:
- Encouraging people to get active by hiring a yoga or dance instructor
- Hosting a party with food and drink to bring people together
- Hosting an educational speaker
- Organising a trip to a local museum, theatre or art gallery
- Hosting an arts and crafts session or a healthy cook-a-long
- Displaying the Full of Life online event with teas and coffees for anyone attending
Cllr Piers Allen, Lead member for Adult Social Care and Health and Chair of the Richmond Health and Wellbeing Board, said:
"Full of Life is Richmond upon Thames' flagship annual event to provide residents aged 55+ with the information they need to live long, independent and happy lives. It’s unfortunate that we can’t return to Twickenham Stadium and host an in-person event this autumn as in previous years, however we hope the Full of Life Fund will encourage the borough’s incredible organisations and groups working with older people to do something social to celebrate Silver Sunday."
