Join The Mayor for The Cultural Reforesting Family Tour at Orleans House Gallery
14 July 2021
This family tour is an opportunity for families to explore the Orleans House grounds through a series of encounters with inhabitants past and present.
Walking through the grounds we encounter ancient trees, flowers, bats, moles, squirrels, even an antelope. Each plant and creature offer an invitation to us to consider their experience in the space by changing our own.
Young bats seeing for the first time invite us to close our eyes and feel the surroundings with our hands, our fingers, our palms, to tread the ground, to summon colours into our imaginations, and when we open our eyes imagine we are emerging from a cave to encounter colour for the first time in our lives.
Each inhabitant will guide your interactions with the space and help to reconsider your role in the natural world by better understanding theirs, through sound, movement and our shared connections.
Tickets are free which includes the tour on Sunday, 1 August 2021 with the Mayor or Deputy Mayor and 50% off a slice of cake with tea or coffee from the stables café. Meeting point will be at reception. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Donations are welcome for this event which will go to this year's Mayor's charities, Habitats & Heritage and A Dose of Nature. The charities have been chosen to help raise awareness of the impact of climate change and biodiversity loss within the borough, while helping to raise awareness of the practical and realistic steps residents and businesses can take to make a positive difference.
