Council releases more cash for hard pressed businesses

17 June 2021

Richmond Council is today releasing a further £4.4m in Additional Restrictions Grant to local businesses to help meet the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic.

Businesses which have previously received an ARG award will receive a further £5,000 and previous recipients of Restart Grants will receive a 30% top up. This means that over 1,400 local businesses will receive additional money.

Businesses do not need to apply to receive this funding.

Cllr Robin Brown, Lead Member for Finance and Resources for Richmond Council, said:

“We’ve always said we want to make sure these grants go to support those local businesses who need it the most and have worked hard to distribute them as fairly and as quickly as possible.

“Whilst understandable, the Government’s recent announcement to delay a further easing of restrictions is disappointing, especially for those local businesses most affected by the restrictions who were gearing up to unlock further.  We hope this further tranche of financial support goes some way to softening that blow.”

Cllr Richard Baker, the Council’s Spokesperson for Business, added:

“After a challenging few months, the delay to moving to the next stage of re-opening will be disappointing for many businesses.  However, we do want to be sure that we stay on course for further removal of constraints and don’t revert back into lockdown.  This additional grant support will help many businesses to manage the delay.  The Council will continue to work with its high street partners to support safe re-opening and encourage residents to Shop and Visit Local.”
