8 June 2021

The ten-minute Talk Richmond podcast episode sees Richmond Council’s Director of Public Health, Shannon Katiyo share an update on the COVID-19 Delta variant.

Listeners can access the episode on our Podcast webpage or by searching for Talk Richmond using a podcast application.

Shannon covers what is meant by the term 'variant of concern', the impact Delta variant B1617.2 (first detected in India) is having on COVID-19 vaccine appointments and what the situation is looking like in Richmond upon Thames.

Cllr Jim Millard, the Host of Talk Richmond and Vice-chair of the Adult Social Services, Health and Housing Services Committee and the Spokesperson for Housing, said:

"There has been a lot of news coverage on the latest Delta variant of concern and the potential impact this may have on the next easing of restrictions on Monday 21 June 2021.

"Shannon provides a useful summary on why this particular variant is causing concern and the impact it has had on the vaccine rollout. Shannon congratulates Richmond residents for the successful rollout of the vaccine in the borough and urges those who haven't had their first dose and who are eligible to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

"This is the final episode of Talk Richmond Series Two and we will be taking a break before beginning Series Three. Thank you to everyone who has listened. If you do have any feedback and want to let us know what you would like to hear in the next series, please email talk@richmond.gov.uk".
