All ability cycling sessions coming to Twickenham
30 March 2023
Our free sessions in April and May will bring a range of adapted cycles to Kneller Gardens for participants to try.
We will work together with Bikeworks, who will lead this new activity. Bikeworks believe that everyone should have access to cycling as it increases physical activity, wellbeing, and is good for the environment.
The adapted cycles available in the sessions include:
- Single and tandem tricycles
- Side-by-side cycles for two or more people
- Wheelchair platform cycles
- Go-kart style recumbent cycles
The cycles are designed so that people with learning, physical and/or sensory disabilities can enjoy cycling, meaning that everyone interested in cycling in the park can take part.
After being shown how to use the adapted cycles, there is a chance for a short ride to explore the gardens and linked green spaces under your own steam.
These sessions are happening as part of our Friendly Parks for All project, which aims to encourage and enable more people to spend time in the beautiful parks and open spaces in Richmond upon Thames. It is also being held in partnership with RISE, the disability sports and inclusive activities team at Richmond Council who promote sports and exercise for disabled people of all ages.
To take part, please book onto one of the sessions, which will be starting off near the pavilion in Kneller Gardens. There will be instructors there to help you, and carers are welcome to join as well.
The sessions will be taking place on:
- Wednesday 26 April 10.30am to 12.30pm
- Wednesday 3 May 10.30am to 12.30pm
- Wednesday 10 May 10.30am to 12.30pm
- Wednesday 17 May 10.30am to 12.30pm
