Thames Path Trail in Barnes temporarily closes for urgent safety works
1 November 2021
From 8 to 19 November the Thames Path National Trail will be temporarily closed (Monday to Friday) between Leg O’ Mutton nature reserve and Hammersmith Bridge while Richmond Council carry out essential safety works.
Richmond Council recently carried out a detailed survey of trees on the section upstream from Hammersmith Bridge to the nature reserve following the failure of a significant poplar tree in the area. Richmond Council and the Port of London Authority are responsible for managing the trees along the Thames Path National Trail.
The survey found several trees to be badly decayed and damaged. The trees affected require urgent attention to ensure public safety in the area and the future health and longevity of the trees. The trees will be managed through pollarding and coppicing to make the area safe for continued public use.
The affected area between Hammersmith Bridge and the footpath connecting to Verdun Road will be closed to the public from 8 to 19 November, Monday to Friday only.
