What sports services are reopening and when

COVID-19: Sports update - March 2021

Following Government guidance, our Sport and Fitness Centres (including pools) are now beginning a phased reopening.

We are currently following the Government's 'Roadmap' for the reopening of our services.

Reduced capacity

Each facility area will reopen with a reduced operating capacity to enable us to comply with social distancing and ensure the safety of both customers and staff.

Visiting us

All attendances must be booked in advance either online, via the App or by phone and may be done so up to 7 days in advance.

Also, ensure you have read our What you need to know before you visit our sports centres guidance.

We are currently following the Government’s 'Roadmap' for the reopening of our services. Step 1 allows the outdoor pool to reopen from 29 March and Step 2 allows for the reopening on indoor pools and gyms from 12 April. This however, is subject to continuing review and we reserve the right to amend this timeline.

All of our Sports and Fitness Centres will be operating NHS Test and Trace, as per Government legislation. When visiting our centres, we encourage you to scan the NHS QR code and you will be asked to provide your name and contact details so you can be notified if you have been exposed to the virus.

Hampton, Whitton, Teddington and Shene Sports and Fitness Centres - All areas

We are continuing to work with the schools to understand the detail of their revised operating model and agree a safe and secure way for the Sports Centres to reopen.

Further updates will appear here as we have them.

Swim school - March 2021 update

We are working towards lessons resuming in early May 2021. However, as the Swim School has been suspended since March 2020, our priority will be to offer classes to existing pupils. Until this has been completed, we will not know whether there will be spaces available for new pupils to join the summer term lessons.

Due to operating restrictions we will be running smaller capacity classes. We do not operate a waiting list, but will provide an update mid-April 2021 regarding new pupil spaces.

NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard qualification)

These training courses are currently on hold and will resume later in the year. If you would like to register your interest in attending the next course, please email leisure@richmond.gov.uk.
