VE Day street parties 2025

We are calling on communities to come together to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe by celebrating with street parties across the borough.

Victory in Europe Day – known as VE Day – marks the penultimate chapter in the Second World War when fighting came to an end in Europe.

VE Day is on 8 May 2025, however, the Early May Bank Holiday on Monday 5 May is being dedicated to nationwide community celebrations and we have issued a rallying call for communities across the borough to hold their own street parties, reminiscent of the celebrations that took place 80 years earlier.

Celebrating with your neighbours is a great way to:

  • Bring the local community together
  • Allow people to experience the streets free of motor traffic
  • Give children the space to play safely
  • Reduce air pollution

To hold a VE Day street party on either the 3, 4 or 5 May, submit your application by Sunday 6 April 2025.

Street parties usually cost £72 but those held to mark VE Day over the weekend of 3, 4 and 5 May are free of charge, to encourage residents to come together.

Before you start

Make sure you have read our guidance on holding a street party.

We want to ensure that people are happy with this event, so if there are any objections you should let us know. We may be able to help you resolve objections.

If you are planning a road closure you will also need to consult businesses in the wider area that may be affected.

Clean Air Day and Car Free Day 2025
