The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections. It is a public document but can only be inspected under supervision by appointment in the Electoral Services Office for a maximum of ten minutes.

You can apply for anonymous registration if your safety would be at risk if the register of electors contained your name or address.

How to apply

In order to apply for anonymous registration you must be eligible to vote in UK elections and provide evidence to support your application such as:

• A court order
• A valid injunction for your protection
• Support from a qualified person such as a police officer of, or above the rank of, superintendent, director general of the Security Services or the Serious Organised Crime Agency, or a director of Adult Social Services or Children's Social Services
• A copy of a court order or attestation for someone at risk and proof that you live in the same household as that person.

Applications last one year and we will write to you three months before your registration is due to expire.
