The current Register of Electors may be inspected in person under supervision.

How it works

The register is a list of borough addresses where there is anyone currently registered to vote.

It is published in alphabetical road order within Polling Districts and Borough Wards and only contains name and poll number.

You may book an appointment at the Electoral Services Office to view the Electoral Register in person for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Appointments can be made by:

You are permitted to take brief hand written notes, but may not take digital images or photocopies of the register. Using information from the Electoral Register for commercial or marketing purposes is forbidden.

The viewing of the register will take place in the Civic Centre, Twickenham. It is recommended that you wear a face covering. Gloves and hand sanitiser will also be available.

Historical copies

We only keep the current version of the register. If you need to view older copies of the register, you can do this at the Richmond Local Studies Library or the British Library in London.

Richmond Local Studies Library

The Richmond Local Studies Library is open to the public to view historical records for the Borough of Richmond upon Thames. You can only view records that are at least 10 years old. If you need to view more recent records, you should visit The British Library.

The British Library

The British Library has Electoral Registers for all UK Parliamentary constituencies dating back to 1832, with complete records from 1947 (the compilation of Electoral Registers was interrupted during wartime).

In order to view the registers at the British Library, you should apply for a reader's pass and make an appointment to use the reading room reserved for this purpose.

Alternatively, the Research Service can carry out a search for you, but this will incur a fee. Constituency names and boundaries may have changed over time, so allow time to locate the correct register.
