COVID-19 video competition for young people

We are launching two exciting competitions where young people can be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes.

The competition aims to encourage young people to think about COVID-19, the impact it has had on young people and encourage people to continue taking measures to keep themselves safe.

Prizes

Prizes for 12 to 15 year olds include:

• A family ticket (two adults and two children) to Christmas at Kew Gardens
• A pair of tickets for singalong The Greatest Showman at Richmond Theatre

Prizes for 16 to 17 year olds include:

• A voucher for paddle boarding (two adults and two young people) for a two-hour paddle boarding class with Active 360 Richmond
• £40 cinema vouchers for a local cinema

Create a short video

To be in with a chance of winning, we are asking all young people who live, or go to school, in Richmond upon Thames, to create a short video regarding COVID-19. There are different topics for each age category.

12 to 15 year olds category

Videos must include the below information:

• How has COVID-19 impacted young people aged 12 to 15 so far?
• What can everyone do to stay safe whilst COVID-19 is still circulating?

16 to 17 year olds category

Videos must include the below information:

• How has COVID-19 impacted you so far (in terms of friends/family/school or college/life events)
• Why is it important for 16 to 17 year olds to have the vaccine?

The winners will be chosen for the most creative videos. Videos could be:

• Filmed (with people) like a mini documentary or an interview
• Filmed on a mobile phone or camera
• An animation
• Any other format that would get people's attention 

How we will use the videos

We will use the videos on Richmond Council and South West London NHS digital channels. This includes social media, website and e-newsletter.

The video will also be used on the new Everything COVID website, an online resource that has been co-designed by young people in Richmond to give teenagers the facts about COVID-19. We will also compile the videos and distribute across to schools in the borough.

Judging

The videos will be judged by the Director of Public Health at Richmond Council. There will be four main winners for each of the main prizes. However:

• All entries will receive a thank you letter
• All entries could be used on digital channels with a 'shout out' to the young person who created it (only first names will be used)

Submission criteria (the important bit)

The videos should be:

• No longer than two minutes
• Filmed landscape and not portrait

When entries are submitted we must have:

• The full name of the young person (only first name will be used in publicity)
• Age of the young person
• Which school or college they attend (if they don't attend school in the borough, where do they live in the borough)
• Contact information for parent (email or telephone number)

Any entries that do not include the above will not be submitted.

Consent

We must have consent of the parents or carers of any young people who feature in the videos. Therefore, when videos are submitted they must either be submitted via parents or carer giving their consent for their children's video to be used.

Entrants must make sure that they have permission from everyone featured in the film.

How to submit your video

You can submit your videos on WhatsApp to 07877 148 372, or by email to press-pr@richmond.gov.uk. If they are submitted by email, they must be saved as an MP4 file.

Schools can also make submissions, but they must confirm that parental consent has been given.

Deadline

The deadline for entries is Sunday 31 October 2021.
