Community Fund round two

Eight projects have been awarded funds in round two of the Community Fund. A total of £549,799 was available to community projects.

Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen

Total amount of funding available: £24,979

Project: Playground for Suffolk Road Recreation Ground - Successful
Group: Friends of Suffolk Rd. Recreation Ground
Amount requested: £15,000 - Amount awarded: £15,000

Funding is requested to create a new dog-free area which will include a natural playground, as well as improved planting and more seating. The playground will include swings, a climbing frame, a slide, a ground trampoline and a sand pit. There will be a swing suitable for children with disabilities as there are none currently in Barnes. There will be new shrubs, trees and a wildflower meadow planted. More seating will be installed to include picnic tables and benches. In the second phase of the project, a large sensory garden will provide a sanctuary for all ages.

Ham and Petersham

Total amount of funding available: £56,666

Project: Enhancing St Richard's Square - Unsuccessful
Group: Ham and Petersham Neighbourhood Forum
Amount requested: £50,000

Funding is requested to make St Richard's Square a more attractive, safe and convenient space by addressing the lack of seating, the neglected flower bed, safety and littering. Working with architects, the Forum will consult all interested groups and prepare proposals for enhancing the Square. Consultation will include a public exhibition of options for the community to comment on.

Project: Grey Court Community Sports Centre - Successful
Group: Grey Court School
Amount requested: £56,666 - Amount awarded: £56,666

Help Grey Court School Create community sports facilities that are fit for purpose for local sports clubs and the wider local community. The current facilities are 41 years old and don't meet basic requirements, they need updating for accessibility as well as ceiling leaks and damp fixed.

Hampton, Hampton Wick, Hampton Hill, Teddington

Project: A Place To Go - Partly successful
Group: Hampton Hill United Reform Church
Amount requested: £200,000 - Amount awarded: £110,000

Completion phase of major upgrading works at the front of the United Reformed Church in the High Street to meet the increasing demand for community space in the locality including heating, lighting, flooring and insulation. Providing operational requirements to create a caring café, learning and counselling facilities within a church and community resource for Hampton Hill, repairing the defective church flooring plus ancillary works; refurbishing the Oak Room (large hall) for increased community use.

Project: The Bungalow - Successful
Group: MTV Youth
Amount requested: £75,000 - Amount awarded: £75,000

MTV Youth was set up by the local community in 2011 following serious concerns raised over escalating anti-social behaviour and a lack of activities for young people in Hampton South. Since then MTV has worked with several hundred young people, serving well over 100+ young people each year. Funding is needed to ensure the club has suitable premises with refurbishment needed of a derelict building so that it can be used for the community including fitting a disabled toilet, disabled access and a new kitchen.

Project: The Pavillion Appeal - Part successful
Group: Teddington Cricket Club
Amount requested: £236,250 - Amount awarded: £52,500

Teddington Cricket Club are planning to build a new pavilion and car park. The new pavilion will enable Teddington Cricket Club to cater for men, women, junior and disability teams simultaneously whilst also offering two separate social spaces to support all our stakeholders in the building The Mall School, Teddington Athletic Football Club and Bushy Park Girls Cricket Club and our visiting teams and guests.

Twickenham, East Twickenham, St Margarets, Whitton and Heathfield, Strawberry Hill

Project: Crane Park Island Nature Trail - Part successful
Group: London Wildlife Trust
Amount requested: £7,314 - Amount awarded: £4,228

This project aims to enhance and improve an existing trail on Crane Park Island Nature Reserve. The trail will comprise of numbered oak posts, linked to an informative map, around our wheelchair friendly path. Each post will haven interactive tactile panel that children can make rubbings from to inform them of the history and wildlife of the area. The funding will also help make improvements to the pond dipping platform.

Project: Whitton Village Green - Part successful
Group: SS Philip and James Church
Amount requested: £15,428 - Amount awarded: £8,000

The funding is required to provide a Village Green for the whole Whitton community, by transforming the open green space around Whitton Church into a valuable resource for local residents of all ages.

Project: Community Kitchen Project - Part successful
Group: East Twickenham Neighbourhood Association
Amount requested: £24,000 - Amount awarded: £12,000

This project aims to improve the facilities for the local community by building a new extension, incorporating a kitchen and a café area. This will provide extra space for more meetings, events and activities to be hosted for local residents, for example: cooking classes, community café, and lunch clubs.
