Share your stories of VE Day
10 April 2025
As we approach the 80th anniversary of VE Day on 8 May, we’re inviting residents to share their personal memories and reflections on this important moment in our history.
Whether you experienced VE Day first hand or have stories passed down through your family, we want to hear how people in Richmond upon Thames marked the end of the Second World War.
Perhaps there were street celebrations, quiet moments of reflection, or special family gatherings. However it was observed, every memory adds to our shared understanding of that time.
We’ll be sharing a selection of these stories online as part of our commemoration of VE Day 80. To take part, please send your memories – and any photographs from the time – to us at communitynews@richmond.gov.uk.
If you're attending a local street party or event to mark the anniversary, tag us on social media and use the hashtag #RichmondVEDay80.
Together, let’s take this opportunity to remember, reflect, and honour those who lived through such a significant chapter in our history.
