A special theatre performance exploring sickle cell disease
Community news on behalf of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust | 24 April 2026
Residents are invited to attend a powerful and thought-provoking theatre performance that explores the realities of care for people experiencing sickle cell crises, jointly hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the West London HCC.
Crescent Cell, Sickle Moon will be performed on Wednesday 6 May from 5pm at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Hammersmith Hospital.
Written by Mojisola Adebayo, directed by Gail Babb and produced by the Sickle Cell Theatre Collective in association with Tamasha, the play imagines care for people with sickle cell disease in a parallel universe and raises important questions about pain, trust, dignity and compassion within hospital settings.
Co-created with people living with sickle cell, haematologists and theatre-makers, the production draws on research from the Exploring Practices of Care study. It offers a rare opportunity for healthcare professionals to step back and reflect on what compassionate, effective hospital care for sickle cell crises could and should look like.
The performance is open to trust staff, people living with sickle cell disease, and the wider public.
It is generously supported by Arts Council England, the Wellcome Trust, Queen Mary University of London, the Curriers Millennium Healthcare Bursary and HaemSTAR.
