Everyone deserves a safe and joyful Christmas
19 December 2024
This festive period, everyone has the right to live free from violence and abuse.
Domestic abuse can take many forms, including psychological, emotional, violent, threatening behaviour, physical, sexual, controlling, coercive behaviour, and economic abuse. It can happen to anyone, regardless of gender or sexuality, within intimate partnerships or among family members.
With the financial strain of Christmas and the challenges many have faced this year, an increase in domestic abuse over the festive period is anticipated. You might not always realise if you or a loved one are being abused, so it’s important to be aware of the signs.
We all have a part to play so it's important to look out for friends, neighbours and family members, and reach out to them if it is safe to do so or seek advice from the National Domestic Violence Helpline.
