Sharing the light to support Spellow Library reopening
10 December 2024
On Wednesday 11 December we are lighting up our libraries in solidarity with Spellow Library in Liverpool, which was destroyed during the riots this summer.
After months of hard work and overwhelming community support, Liverpool’s Spellow Library and Community Hub will reopen its doors to the public on Thursday 12 December.
To celebrate this milestone and highlight the essential role libraries play in our communities, libraries across the country are being encouraged to 'Share the Light' on Wednesday evening by illuminating their buildings. We are proud to show our support by lighting up our borough’s libraries with environmentally friendly battery-powered candles.
This event aims to spotlight the essential role our libraries play in the cultural fabric of our towns, cities and boroughs. Through this partnership, we can reinforce the importance of these sanctuaries of knowledge, sanctuaries which don’t discriminate when it comes to offering a sense of belonging.
In addition, our local libraries offer a wide range of activities and resources to support the local community. Residents are welcome to join our Cost of Living Advice Project at Ham Library, Knit and Natter sessions at Twickenham Library and Ham Library, ‘Transform Work Life’ interactive seminars at Richmond Old Town Hall, and more. These are designed to encourage learning, creativity, and community spirit. Find out what's on in Richmond libraries.
