Local charity expands offerings with new mattresses and bed frames

Community news on behalf of Richmond Furniture Scheme | 14 February 2025

Richmond Furniture Scheme (RFS) has added new mattresses and bed frames to its range of affordable reused furniture, making the re-use scheme a one-stop shop for all home needs.

Richmond Furniture Scheme provides good quality bargains, with donated furniture and refurbished appliances sold at reasonable prices. It offers discounts for people on low incomes and provides information on grants.

Partnering with a bed supplier, top-quality new mattresses and new bed frames are now available from RFS’s online shop and at its warehouse.

“A bed is an absolutely essential requirement, but an expensive one. We are delighted that we can now offer brand new mattresses and bed frames at very reasonable prices and with a 25% discount for those in need,” said Richmond Furniture Scheme CEO Simon Westgarth.

“We are always looking at new ways to help people and this is a big step for us. We already sell fantastic, donated furniture and refurbished appliances like washing machines, so this is the next piece in the jigsaw.”

Donate and support today

RFS’s mission is to save items from landfill by reusing, refurbishing and reselling donated furniture. It collects for free from around the Richmond borough (and sometimes beyond) and an army of volunteers fix, paint and reupholster where needed to ensure buyers get good quality furniture in great condition.

If you have any bed frames or other furniture you would like to donate, find out more about RFS's free collection service

If you are interested in volunteering for the charity, everything is welcomed from painting to warehouse work and marketing. Find out more about volunteering for RFS.

There are many local resources available in Richmond to support residents to give their items a new purpose and save from them going to waste. Find out about local opportunities to donate sell, share and repair old items in the borough.

What's more, you can borrow over 30 useful household DIY tools and items rather than buying new from our local Library of Things, for as little as a few pounds a day. First time borrowers get 10% with code TWICKENHAMLOT10.
