We have joined forces with solar energy specialists MakeMyHouseGreen to help residents cut energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint. Through this partnership, homeowners installing solar panels and storage batteries will receive an automatic £500 discount.
Improving home energy efficiency, generating renewable energy, and reducing reliance on fossil fuels are key to tackling rising energy bills and cutting household carbon emissions, said Councillor Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture, and Sports Committee.
These efforts are central to our Climate and Nature Strategy and upcoming Retrofit Strategy (2025 to 2030), as we work towards our ambitious target of becoming a Net Zero Borough by 2043.
Julia said: “We want to make it easier for residents considering solar technology to navigate their options and invest with confidence, free from sales pressure.
“Solar panels and storage batteries can be a smart, long-term investment, helping residents power their homes efficiently and sustainably.
“With household energy use accounting for nearly half of the borough’s total carbon emissions, Richmond Council is committed to making solar power more accessible and affordable for those looking to make the switch.”
Transitioning to solar could save residents an estimated £1,000 per year on energy bills, while cutting up to a tonne of CO2 annually. Most homeowners see a return on investment within six to eight years.
MakeMyHouseGreen has a strong record, having supported homeowners, local authorities, and major organisations like Nationwide Building Society and Santander in their transition to solar.
Llewellyn Kinch, Founder and CEO of MakeMyHouseGreen, said: “We are delighted to partner with Richmond Council to make solar energy more accessible for local residents. By offering clear guidance and a resident discount, we hope to empower homeowners to take control of their energy use, reduce their bills, and contribute to a greener future.”
Together with MakeMyHouseGreen, we are helping residents generate clean energy, lower their bills, and build a greener borough.
