Community news on behalf of Arts Richmond | 9 July 2024

Arts Richmond's New Plays Festival has returned and is open for writers to enter their scripts.

The biennial writing competition welcomes all local writers, regardless of whether they are linked to affiliated drama societies.

Final shortlisted plays will be brought to life in a staged performance at the Orange Tree Theatre on Sunday 13 October where the winner will be announced.

Join the writing competition for a chance to share your story and let your creativity shine.

Entry criteria:

  • Be original, unpublished and previously unperformed
  • Have a running time of no longer than 20 minutes
  • Require no more than four actors (although they can play multiple parts)
  • Be suitable to be performed potentially in the round, and working around the existing set in the venue selected for the finalists’ performance
  • Be capable of being staged with minimal technical requirements, in terms of set, costume, set, sound and lighting effects. The emphasis is very much upon the writing
