Explore your imagination with the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge

7 July 2025

This summer, children are being encouraged to delve into the world of books with the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge.

The Summer Reading Challenge theme for this year is Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors. This exciting new theme will inspire children to tap into a world of imagination through reading, exploring the magical connection between storytelling and nature.

How to get involved

From Saturday 5 July 2025, children in the borough can sign up for the challenge at their local Richmond upon Thames library and receive a Story Garden pack.

To take part, a child needs to be a member of the library and have their own library card.

For each of six library books they read they can collect a sticker for their pack. At the end of the challenge they will be rewarded in the library with a medal and certificate.

Children can update their progress throughout the challenge at any library in the borough.

Lego challenges

Everyone loves making things with Lego!

Throughout August at select local libraries children can design and build amazing creations and take part in fun Lego challenges.

Children must be registered with the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge to participate in these free events and must be accompanied by an adult.

No experience necessary, and all materials will be provided.
