Looking for connection? Find support with Kew Neighbourhood Association

Community news on behalf of Kew Neighbourhood Association | 4 June 2025

With Loneliness Awareness Week taking place from 9 to 15 June, it is a good time to reflect on the power of small acts of kindness, and the importance of staying connected.

Local charity Kew Neighbourhood Association (KNA) offers more than just help with practical tasks. It’s a friendly presence in someone’s day, a link to the local community, and a reminder that no one has to feel alone. Whether it’s a lift to the doctor, help with light gardening, companionship over a cup of tea, or simply a cheerful chat, KNA’s volunteers make a quiet but powerful difference.

This June, with the help of their dedicated supporters, the charity is hosting a range of events to foster connection and community spirit, including:

  • A volunteer lunch to bring together their incredible helpers
  • A summer party on 19 June for the beneficiaries they support throughout the year
  • A stall at the Kew Fete on 21 June, where the charity will share more about their work

If you or someone you know would benefit from KNA’s support - or you’re thinking of volunteering - get in touch now.

Be the reason someone feels less alone

There are little things that may help ease loneliness, even from home:

  • Call a friend or relative, even for a few minutes - they’ll likely be glad to hear from you
  • Let someone know if you’d like a visitor - KNA can help with that
  • Listen to the radio or join a telephone group - it can be a lovely way to feel connected
  • Place photos, letters, or favourite objects nearby to bring comfort and spark memories
  • Try a small routine, like opening a window each morning or enjoying a cuppa by your favourite view

Everyone deserves connection, and sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference. What's more, Kew Neighbourhood Association is currently recruiting. Whether you're looking to volunteer or get involved in other ways, visit the Kew Neighbourhood Association website to see all current opportunities.
