New vouchers help residents and businesses try cargo bikes for less

11 June 2026

Residents and businesses in Richmond upon Thames are being invited to try a cleaner, greener way to travel, with our latest cargo bike offers.

We are offering vouchers to make it easier than ever to experience the benefits of cargo bikes before committing to buy.

Through the new Try Before You Bike vouchers, residents can receive £150 per month for 12 months – a total value of £1,800 – towards the cost of purchasing a cargo bike.

Local businesses can also take part through dedicated cargo bike vouchers, offering £300 per month for six months – also worth £1,800 – to support greener deliveries and operations.

Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Joint Deputy Leader of Richmond Council and Chair of the Transport and Air Quality Committee, said: "Cargo bikes can transform the way we move around our borough – whether its families doing the school run or businesses making local deliveries.

"These new offers – which are the most generous in London – will give residents and businesses a risk-free opportunity to try cargo bikes for themselves and experience the benefits first-hand. By making it easier to try more sustainable transport for local journeys, we’re continuing our efforts to make Richmond upon Thames the cargo bike capital of London."

Cargo bikes offer a practical, low-cost and sustainable alternative to car travel, helping to reduce congestion and improve air quality across the borough.

The vouchers are designed to remove the upfront cost barrier and give people the chance to see how a cargo bike could fit into their daily routine. At the end of the trial period, participants will have the option to purchase their bike at a discounted rate.

The Richmond Council offer also supports the Cycle to Work Scheme, allowing you to transfer your trial payments or use your tax-free salary sacrifice to purchase the bike.

Residents and businesses interested in applying for a voucher can find out more and sign up online

The vouchers will be issued on a first come, first served basis so residents and businesses are encouraged to get their applications in early.
