Have your say on a new community food growing area for Hampton

14 March 2024

Our Parks team are proposing to establish a community food growing area at Dean Road Open Space in Hampton and want to hear from local residents.

This new community food growing space would be operated by local volunteers and community groups who have expressed interest in supporting the initiative. It would also provide a learning and meeting place where people of all ages from our local community can learn about:

  • Food origins – where does my food come from?
  • Growing your own skills
  • Biodiversity
  • Cookery
  • Recycling and upcycling

This initiative is intended to support the local community by bringing together community groups to work together to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers. These would then be shared and consumed by the groups involved. Once the proposed project becomes established, the groups would then be able to engage with local schools and help educate them on the benefits of food growing.

The map below shows the exact location of the proposed community food growing area. The yellow box indicates the area to be used:

You can learn more about the proposals and give us your feedback before Tuesday 2 April by filling out our online survey. All feedback received will be fully considered before any decisions are made on whether to progress the project.
