Step into the forest: Cultural reforesting exhibition opens at Orleans House Gallery

Residents are invited to experience ‘Cultural Reforesting’, a thought-provoking new exhibition at Orleans House Gallery from 27 March to 31 August 2025.

Through immersive artworks and imaginative storytelling, the exhibition explores how we connect with the natural world – and how we are part of it.

Bringing together a diverse group of artists, the exhibition invites visitors to see themselves as more than just individuals. ‘Cultural Reforesting’ transforms Orleans House Gallery into a dynamic space for creativity and conversation, encouraging us to rethink our place in nature and how we can respond to the environmental challenges of our time.

Councillor John Coombs, Richmond Council’s Spokesperson for Arts, said:

“Richmond upon Thames has long been a place where creativity and nature meet, and ‘Cultural Reforesting’ brings this connection to life in a powerful way. Art has a unique ability to help us engage with big issues, like climate change, in ways that are emotional, imaginative, and inspiring. This exhibition is a chance for people of all ages to step into a world of ideas, explore their own relationship with nature, and leave feeling part of something bigger. I encourage everyone to come and experience it.”

‘Cultural Reforesting’ features work by artists who have spent years exploring different aspects of the environmental crisis – from the hidden intelligence of plants to the way humans and animals shape the world together. Visitors can expect a mix of sculpture, sound, video, and hands-on installations that bring these ideas to life in unexpected ways.

Cultural Reforesting is an ongoing programme by Richmond Arts Service, supporting artists to explore themes of nature, sustainability, and community. Orleans House Gallery is a public art space we manage, hosting free exhibitions and events throughout the year.
