International Women’s Day 2025: Taking action for women's safety

7 March 2025

This International Women’s Day, Richmond Council is standing with women and girls across the borough to make Richmond a safer, more equal place for everyone. While we celebrate the achievements of women in our communities, we also recognise that there is still more to do.

Across Richmond, we are taking action. From community-led initiatives to working with the Met Police and local organisations, we are making sure women feel safe, heard and empowered in their everyday lives.

Get involved

Met Police Walk and Talk

Female officers from the Met’s Safer Neighbourhood Team will host a Walk and Talk from the Barmy Arms Pub along the towpath to Richmond Bridge. This is a chance for women to walk with local officers, share their thoughts and concerns, and help shape the way safety is approached in our borough.

  • Date: Friday 7 March
  • Time: 4 to 5pm
  • Location: Meet at Barmy Arms Pub, TW1 3DU

White Ribbon Walk

The borough is coming together for the International Women’s Day White Ribbon Walk. Residents are invited to join the walk along Hampton High Street to Richmond and Hampton FC's Beveree Stadium. This walk is about showing support and solidarity in tackling violence against women and girls, with speeches along the route and a Community Safety Stall at the stadium offering information and support.

  • Date: Saturday 8 March
  • Time: 1.30pm
  • Meeting point: Bu’sen Martial Arts Centre, Stanley Road, TW2 5ND

Council at England v Italy Six Nations

Then, on Sunday 9 March, Community Safety Officers and Met Police officers will be at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium during the England v Italy Six Nations match. Their stall will provide advice, resources and support for those looking for information about personal safety and preventing violence against women.

  • Date: Sunday 9 March
  • Time: 2pm
  • Location: Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium, TW2 7BA

For local organisations supporting women and girls, the Richmond and Wandsworth VAWG Community Forum on Thursday 13 March offers a chance to share ideas, collaborate, and strengthen the support available in our communities.

Richmond Council is calling on residents to get involved - whether by attending events, starting conversations, or supporting local initiatives. Real change happens when communities come together. By taking action now, we can create a borough where women and girls feel safe and supported every day.
