Learn to row in traditional boats with Teddington's Skiff Club
Community news on behalf of The Skiff Club | 14 March 2025
From Saturday 29 March, The Skiff Club is offering beginners’ courses and activities for those who want to learn to row a traditional Thames Skiff.
Regular club activities include rowing outings throughout the week and on weekends, often with a pub or cafe stop, along with ongoing coaching and training. A friendly bar is open on Thursdays for well-earned refreshments.
For the more adventurous the club organises expeditions to other waterways in the UK and abroad. This year’s tours include four days on the River Wey, two days to Chertsey and back, skiffing at the Vogalonga festival in Venice and a three-day row upstream for Henley Regatta.
Skiffs are stable, making basic skills easy to learn, leading to good exercise and opportunities to race in local events on the Thames under the Skiff Racing Association. It is also a great way to enjoy the river, learn a skill, get some exercise and meet new friends.
Beginners’ course details:
- Date: From Saturday 29 March 2025
- Time: 8:30am (each lesson will last 1.5 hours)
- Location: The Boathouse, Trowlock Way, Teddington, TW11 9QY
- Price: £60 for four sessions (refundable upon joining the club)
The club also offers trial outings if the beginners’ course doesn’t suit.
