Get access to free advice, support and testing this World AIDS Day

28 November 2024

Marked annually on 1 December, World AIDS Day aims to normalise conversations around HIV and AIDS, highlighting how quick and simple it is to get tested.

This year, our sexual health service provider Spectra is hosting a free event to bring local health information and services directly to residents.

In Richmond upon Thames, we are committed to addressing the inequalities associated with HIV and AIDS and removing the barriers to testing, prevention, treatment, care, and support for our residents. This includes tackling stigma through education, training, and recruiting non-judgemental staff in clinics to ensure services, advice and support are accessible to all.

World AIDS Day event

On Wednesday 4 December, our sexual health service provider Spectra invites residents to an inspiring day of connection, reflection, and celebration, as they bring people together to honour the diverse experiences of those impacted by HIV in our communities.

The event will provide comprehensive sexual health information, access to information and advice stalls with southwest London organisations - including mental health support and local LGBTQ+ services, panel discussions, access to free HIV, STI and liver testing, a choir performance and creative workshops.

Event details:

  • Date: Wednesday 4 December 2024
  • Time: 10am to 4pm
  • Location: Wandsworth Civic Suite, SW18 2PU

  • Monday 23 December 2024 from 5.30 to 7.30pm

Ongoing sexual health support

It’s important to normalise conversations around HIV and AIDS and the quick, simple tests that can help detect new cases early. To demonstrate just how simple it is to receive an HIV test in a non-judgmental environment, the Leader of Richmond Council, Cllr Gareth Roberts, joined Dale from Spectra to take a quick test on video.

We provide residents with comprehensive information on sexual and reproductive health services, including STI and HIV testing, contraception, and support for young people.

You can also order a free self test kit to do at home via the sexual health e-service SHL.UK or via the National HIV Testing scheme.
