Young debaters discuss smartphone use at Pupil Parliament event

Community news on behalf of Trafalgar Schools | 30 October 2024

At this year’s Pupil Parliament event on 18 October, Trafalgar Schools gathered children from all over the borough to debate the thorny issue of smartphones.

Around 40 children representing their own schools debated whether children under 14 should be allowed smartphones. After an initial round of voting, ten young debaters presented their arguments to the Mayor, Councillor Richard Pyne, and the Mayoress.

The Pupil Parliament event aimed to introduce children to democracy and debate, as well as inform local politicians of children's opinions on issues that affect them.
