New Elleray Centre celebrates Teddington Society Design Award

8 October 2026

The new Elleray Centre has received a Design Award from the Teddington Society, recognising its outstanding contribution to the town’s character.

The occasional award celebrates the best new or refurbished contribution to the area.

Opened in February, the purpose-built centre in North Lane replaced the much-loved but ageing Elleray Hall. It provides an energy-efficient, fully accessible and flexible home for activities, services and events, while continuing its tradition of supporting older residents and bringing people together.

Councillor Gareth Roberts, Leader of Richmond Council, said: “This award is a fantastic recognition of everyone who worked to make the new Elleray Centre a reality.

“It is a welcoming, accessible building that puts residents first and gives them a modern space where they can meet, stay active and feel connected.

“The centre was shaped in close partnership with the Elleray Community Association and residents, so it is particularly fitting to see it recognised by the Teddington Society.”

The new building includes a divisible main hall, two spacious activity rooms, smaller consultation spaces, a fully equipped kitchen, coffee bar, lounge and garden terrace. Its step-free design makes it easy for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility to move around independently.

The Elleray Community Association runs its popular older people’s social club from the centre, alongside a growing programme for the wider community. The flexible spaces allow several activities to take place at the same time, creating a lively hub for residents of all ages.

The award was presented on Monday to Richmond Council and Clive Chapman Architects.
