A fond farewell to Elleray Hall... but not long to wait for its replacement!
Community news on behalf of Elleray Community Association | 29 September 2025
The September showers certainly didn’t spoil a most wonderful afternoon at Elleray Hall, where over 90 guests gathered to celebrate and say goodbye to the old building before the move to the new Elleray Centre just yards away.
The Hall was beautifully decorated for the occasion with photographs from the archives covering the history of the building from the very earliest days of the Elleray Community Association charity - 70 years of support, fun and entertainment and many happy memories!
Guests were treated to a splendid afternoon tea and toasted the old hall with a glass of Buck's Fizz while the fabulous Harvey Baker Band got everyone's toes tapping and hips swinging with a string of hits from over the decades.
The Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Penny Frost, reminded everyone how Elleray Hall had become the home of a thriving social club for adults, especially older adults, living in and around Teddington. But, as she pointed out, this final farewell was not an occasion for sadness or long faces.
Soon, the new Elleray Centre, just around the corner in North Lane, is to become the new home of the social club as well as the venue for a host of classes, activities and performances that will appeal to a very broad cross section of the entire local community. It promises to be a very lively place indeed.
This event would not have been possible without a generous grant from the Mayor of London’s Community Weekend.
