When it comes to accessibility, having the right information can make all the difference. Whether you’re visiting a local café, exploring cultural venues, or navigating public transport, knowing what to expect in terms of access is essential for a comfortable and inclusive experience. That’s what AccessAble’s Detailed Access Guides are meant for.
Who Are AccessAble?
We are the largest provider of accessibility information across the UK.
Founded in 2000, our mission to create a more inclusive society was initially inspired by the personal experience of Founder Dr.Gregory Burke and developed with thousands of disability groups.
We support over 475 organisations to publish more than 70,000 Detailed Access Guides across a wide range of sectors. This includes healthcare, retail, education, and public spaces. Available for free on our website, the guides enable disabled people to make informed decisions about where to go, and to navigate new places with confidence.
The Detailed Access Guides are created by a team of trained surveyors who visit each location and assess key accessibility features, including door widths, parking spaces, ramp availability, assistive listening devices, information on light and noise levels and toilet facilities. These guides cover a wide range of locations, from public buildings to small independent venues.
How our guides support people in Richmond
Since launching in the borough in 2019, over 24,000 users have viewed the Richmond Detailed Access Guides on our AccessAble website.
The Richmond Detailed Access Guides cover over 200 venues across the borough including parks, eateries and many of Richmond’s shopping areas. The detailed information is particularly helpful for those who may need specific accommodations due to mobility challenges, sensory impairments, or other access needs.
For example, if someone with a wheelchair plans to visit the Richmond Theatre, the Detailed Access Guide will provide crucial details about blue badge parking, wheelchair access points, the availability of accessible seating, and the layout of facilities, such as toilets and ramps.
Finding a guide for Richmond is easy. Simply visit the AccessAble website and search for your chosen venue or area.
All the venues visited are given accessibility symbols. You can use these to narrow your search by filtering your results using the accessibility symbols, or, if you have an account, you can save your preferences for future use. Each venue page includes detailed, downloadable access information and a clear breakdown of what to expect in terms of accessibility.
Explore and share our guides
Whether you are a resident, visitor, or business owner, you can make a difference by exploring and sharing these guides. By spreading the word and helping others find the information they need, we can continue to foster an environment where everyone has equal access to the borough’s resources, opportunities and experiences.
If you’re planning a day out or a trip in Richmond, check out the Detailed Access Guides.
