How do I write a good application?
Some tips to help:
- Clearly link your idea to one or more climate action themes (e.g. biodiversity, waste reduction, adapting to climate change, sustainable travel)
- Show community involvement: how others will participate or benefit
- Provide a detailed cost breakdown of how the funding will be spent
- Be specific about location, timing, and expected outcomes
What do you not fund?
We do not fund:
- Projects without relevant permissions, DBS checks and proper safeguarding
- Projects that have already taken place with a retrospective application
- Initiatives that do not align with climate and sustainability themes.
- Purchases of new items when second-hand, rented, or upcycled options are available
- Projects on your own private land that is not accessible to the community (e.g. your garden)
- Projects where there is a more suitable Council fund available
- Projects that create monetary profit from the funding (eg charging for entry to a funded event)
If in doubt, please contact the Climate Change team before applying.
How can I receive support with my application?
You can email the Climate Change team at climatechange@richmond.gov.uk.
If you do not have an email address, call us on 020 8891 1411 and ask for a message to be sent to the Climate Change and Sustainability team, to call you back.
You can contact Richmond CVS for support with your written application.
Can I reapply if I have already received a climate action microgrant?
You are very welcome to reapply if you have finished your previous project, provided us with media, and filled in our feedback form.
Please note that we prioritise new applicants who have not had a project funded before.
We recommend you look into long-term funding options if you need funding on a regular basis or want to expand your previous project.
