Richmond Climate Emergency Strategy

In 2024 we will be working on an updated Richmond Climate Emergency Strategy to address the ecological challenges we are facing as a borough, accelerate our pathway towards becoming a Net Zero borough by 2043, and build our adaptation and resilience towards the effects of climate change.

This will build on our original strategy, published in 2019,when we declared a climate emergency.

The new strategy is expected to cover 2025 to 2030, to bring us up to our 2030 target to be a Carbon Neutral Council.

There will be a number of ways to get involved to help shape the new draft strategy, as well as a formal consultation.

Community reporters

We will be working with an external partner to develop a method of capturing stories and insights from around the borough to help shape our strategy. Based on a ‘community reporter’ methodology around 18 to 20 residents will be selected to represent the diversity our borough brings. The aim is to explore what climate change means to our residents and where greater support is needed.

Details on how to get involved in this programme will be updated here with recruitment expected to start in June 2024. Community reporters will be paid the London Living Wage to reflect their time commitment.

Richmond Sustainability Forum

Anyone living or working in Richmond with an interest in sustainability is invited to join the Richmond Sustainability Forum. This first met in Patch, Twickenham in November 2023, and again at Orleans House Gallery in June 2024.

At its next meeting, we will be updating the Forum on our plans for the new Richmond Climate Emergency Strategy and ways to get involved.

The date and location of the next meeting will be shared here when confirmed.
