The Full of Life Fund is back for its fourth year to sit alongside the annual Full of Life Fair, International Day of Older Persons and Silver Sunday this October.

Through a programme of exciting events, the fund aims to connect older residents across our communities with activities and groups that can support their health and wellbeing in their local area.

About the fund

The Full of Life Fund was set up in 2021 to support local groups and organisations across the borough who put on activities for our older residents and carers. Through the programme, we aim to celebrate our older residents and make them aware of the opportunities that exist in their communities to help them stay physically active, socially connected and fully supported to live healthy, happy lives.

Through partnership working and engagement with residents, we have produced a Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy, featuring themes of Start Well, Live Well and Age Well. The health and wellbeing priorities laid out to support our residents to age well are helping to guide our Full of Life offer.

Events

Events will need to take place between Tuesday 1 October and Thursday 31 October 2024.

Ideas for events include:

  • Organising activity ‘taster’ sessions that your organisation typically offers, to display the range of options available for older people in our communities
  • Encouraging people to get active by hiring a yoga or dance instructor
  • Organising an event designed especially for adults with sight or hearing impairment
  • Organising dementia-friendly activities for our residents living with and caring for a loved one with dementia
  • Hosting a healthy cook-a-long, highlighting how food and nutrition relate to overall health
  • Organising a group walk around local parks and nature trails
  • Organising a trip to a local museum, theatre, or art gallery
  • Hosting expert led workshops on how to safely maintain physical health, even with limited mobility

A timetable of events will be published in September to help our residents plan which events they would like to attend.

Apply for the fund

Organisations and groups who work with older people are invited to apply for up to £250 of funding to host their event. You may decide to put on something bespoke or use the funds to support relevant activities you already have planned to increase in size and allow more people to attend. Applicants need to outline how they plan to use the money. Your events need to support our older residents' wellbeing through things like encouraging them to move more and helping them to live healthy, independent lives.

The deadline for Full of Life Fund applications is 11.59pm on Sunday 4 August 2024.

Funding will be allocated based on how the proposed activity aligns with Full of Life aims and ensuring there is an even spread of activity across the borough.

Application decision

Successful applicants will be told by late August. We will be looking to confirm events and start promotion of our finalised programme by the middle of September.

We will use details of proposed events submitted in the application forms to start pulling together marketing materials, so we ask that these details are as close to finalised as possible.

How local organisations have used the fund

Below are some examples of activities that local groups and organisations hosted with the Full of Life Fund.

Multicultural Richmond

Last year, Multicultural Richmond hosted a fun day showcasing a variety of wellbeing activities and services like Zumba, qigong, yoga, meditation and reflexology.

Age UK Richmond

Age UK Richmond put on a gardening advice and taster session at their community allotments. This gave participants the chance to learn about growing plants, connect with others and do some digging.

Visiting Angels

The Visiting Angels organised a series of dementia-friendly, gentle mind and body exercise sessions around the community.

Mortlake Community Association

The Mortlake Community Association put on informational talks to support their local community to live healthier, more connected lives in Mortlake.
