Scattering cremated remains within the Borough
You must obtain permission from the landowner before scattering any cremated remains.
Get permission
You cannot scatter remains within cemetery grounds as graves are owned by individual families.
On local authority managed areas, you should contact the Manager of that Department who will advise you regarding any regulations which apply.
If permission is granted, you should consider the following points:
- Due regard is taken to the visitors of the area
- The cremated remains are dispersed close to the ground and over a wide area, to avoid an obvious mound, which other visitors to the site may find disturbing

Scattering of ashes in public open spaces
If you wish to scatter ashes in one of our parks and open spaces, permission is granted as long as certain conditions are met, and the park is not primarily managed for nature conservation.
