Would you like a free wheelchair ramp for your business?

Business Direct - March 2019

Last year, Richmond Council offered businesses around the borough the opportunity to become more inclusive and accessible for disabled customers by applying for a free wheelchair ramp.

There are still ramps available so don’t hesitate and apply now! A number of local businesses have already benefited, including Twickenham Health Care. They had the ramp installed to enable more of their customers, including those in wheel chairs, to enter their branch without having to climb over a lip in the doorway.  Hear from them in our video.

Jennifer Juriansz, from Twickenham Health Care, said:

“We have had trouble with people getting in and out of the surgery with wheelchairs. So, we thought that would be a good idea to have a ramp. We decided to take advantage of the scheme. It is now much easier. Staff won’t hurt themselves trying to lift wheel chairs up the lip of the shop.”

Supported by RUILS, a local charity who supports children and adults with disabilities, businesses can register their interest in receiving the free ramp. RUILS will undertake an assessment of all the applicants before a decision is made on the successful businesses.

Businesses interested in applying for one of the wheelchair ramps can email business@richmond.gov.uk for further information.
