Weights and measures
A core function of Trading Standards is ensuring fairness in transactions where there is a reference to any weight or measure. These transactions occur for most of us every day. We ensure accuracy every time you fill your car with petrol, each time you visit the greengrocer, baker, butcher or supermarket or buy a pint of beer.
- Petrol
- Meat and vegetables
- Beer and spirits
- Packaged goods
- Bread
- Anything marked with a weight or measure
- Lorry weights
- Public weighbridge
Also Trading Standards carry out spot checks on the weight of vehicles travelling through the borough to ensure maximum limits are adhered to and weight restrictions on roads and bridges are not exceeded.
Trading Standards also provides a comprehensive testing service for weighing or measuring equipment used by the local business community. To ensure the best service we are an “Approved Body” - that is approved by the Department of Trade and Industry.
