Heating and insulation
Did you know over 50% of the heat loss from an average home, is through the roof and walls?
Energy efficiency is about using energy in your home in a way to make sure you are warm and comfortable without wasting resources and money.
Home insulation
Over three quarters of the energy used in a typical UK home is for water or space heating. In poorly insulated homes a lot of heat escapes through walls, roofs and windows, meaning that it costs you more to keep your home warm. By insulating your home you can make significant savings on your energy bill.
If you receive certain benefits, or have a low income, you may be eligible for grant-funded insulation through the Coldbusters scheme.
Draft proofing
Draught proofing is a cheap and very cost effective way to reduce your heating bills. If you don’t have double or secondary glazing, your home is probably losing up to 20% of its heat through gaps in your doors and windows. They are easy to fit and a good DIY store will be able to advise you on which products are suitable for your home.
The Green Deal
The Green Deal is a scheme which aims to remove the upfront cost of making energy efficiency improvements in your home to reduce your bills.
Many energy saving measures are covered by the scheme and you can be repaid through the predicted savings you make on your utility bills.
