Whitton parking study
We have been reviewing parking in the Constance Road and Mayfair Avenue area of Whitton in response to residents' feedback.
Background
We undertook a consultation in the Constance Road and Mayfair Avenue area of Whitton as part of a study of parking in the locality.
This 1st stage consultation followed consideration of comments, including petitions received by the Council from residents of six roads in this area (Britannia Lane, Camellia Place, Constance Road, Mayfair Avenue, Melrose Avenue and Tranmere Road), concerning the difficulties they say they face in finding a parking space near to their home.
It is understood that these difficulties are primarily caused by the parking of vehicles by non-residents (all day commuters and long stay parking).
Parking beat surveys
Parking beat surveys were carried in the area during 2017 to assess the levels of parking demand in the area. The surveys set out to establish reasonable estimates of the following:
- Residents' vehicles parked
- Visitors/non-residents parked
1st stage consultation – June / July 2017
Residents' feedback consultation
We asked residents and businesses in this area for their views on whether they would wish to see a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) implemented and, if so, what days and hours it should operate.
The consultation boundary comprised a number of roads in this area, including properties on the west side of the High Street, though no changes were proposed in the High Street itself.

Results
The results show:
- An overall response rate of 45% (829 properties consulted, 378 returned paper and online questionnaires)
- Insufficient support for a new CPZ to be implemented in this part of Whitton
- The only road to show sufficient support was Runnymede Close

Decision
Based on these results, we will not progressing any further with CPZ parking controls in this area at this time.
