Summer Splash

We are pleased to provide a new pilot Summer Splash programme at Pools on the Park and Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre this summer.

About the programme

The programme will provide free crash courses to children in school years 5, 6 and 7 who have not attained the KS2 requirement to swim 25m confidently and perform safe self-rescue.

General swim sessions will also be available at a reduced rate throughout the summer to encourage young people to swim.

Free swim crash courses

The free swim crash courses will be available at Pools on the Park and Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre.

Courses are for children in school years 5, 6 and 7, who have not attained the KS2 requirement and are unable to swim to a level expected for their age.

To be eligible for the free swim crash courses children must either live or go to school in the London Borough of Richmond.

Swim stages

Swim crash courses are for children between swim stages 1 and 6:

• Stage 1 – Suitable for children who are non-swimmers.
• Stage 2 – Children should be able to swim 3m on their front with their face in the water unaided
• Stage 3 – Children should be able to swim 5m front crawl and 5m back crawl
• Stage 4 – Children should be able to swim 10m front crawl and 10m back crawl
• Stage 5 – Children should be able to swim 15m basic front crawl, 15m basic back crawl with an awareness of breaststroke and be confident in the main pool out of their depth
• Stage 6 – Children should be able to swim 25m basic front crawl, 25m basic back crawl and 15m basic breaststroke

Pools on the Park

The five-day crash course at Pools on the Park will take place from Monday 29 July to Friday 2 August 2024 at the following times:

• 8.30 to 9am - Stages 5 and 6
• 9 to 9.30am - Stages 3 and 4
• 9.30 to 10am - Stages 1 and 2

Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre

The five-day crash courses at Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre will take place from Monday 12 August to Friday 16 August 2024 and Monday 19 August to Friday 23 August 2024 at the following times:

• 8 to 8.30am - Stages 1 and 2
• 8.30 to 9am - Stages 3 and 4
• 9 to 9.30am - Stages 5 and 6

Applications now closed

The summer crash course places have now been filled and we are not accepting any further applications.

£1 swim sessions

The £1 general swim sessions will be available to any child who is a resident or who is educated in the borough and has a Leisure and Youth Card.

All other participants will be charged at the normal general swim price. General swim sessions are 55 minutes long.

Pools on the Park

Swim sessions at Pools on the Park will take place at 4pm from Monday 22 July to Sunday 1 September 2024.

Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre

Swim sessions at Teddington Pools and Fitness Centre will take place at 10am from Monday 22 July to Friday 16 August 2024.

How to book

Summer Splash £1 swim sessions will be available to book up to seven days in advance through the online booking portal, in person at the centre, or by calling us on 020 3772 2999.

If you wish to make a booking on behalf of a Leisure and Youth card holder, this must be done through online web booking portal to obtain the appropriate discount. If the accounts are not already linked, you will need to complete the add household member to an existing account form.
