New bikehangars to be installed across the borough next week
12 December 2024
Between Monday 16 and 23 December, we are installing 30 new bikehangars for residents to securely store their bicycles.
Following a consultation earlier this year, we are installing 30 new bikehangars to improve cycle storage in the borough.
All units will be managed by CycleHoop on our behalf. Spaces are available to rent on a first-come, first-served basis via the Cyclehoop website and cost £72 per year, plus a refundable deposit. All fees will go to CycleHoop for management and maintenance, including cleaning.

Cycling in the borough
Addressing air quality is a top priority for us. We want everyone to be able to get around and access the services they need effortlessly and safely. That’s why we have rolled out a number of initiatives to make active travel easier and greener choices more attractive.
We have partnered with Peddle My Wheels for the Try Before You Bike scheme, a user-friendly scheme that is specifically designed to encourage people to cycle. The convenient subscription model enables residents and businesses to hire a bicycle, e-bike, cargo bike, e-cargo bike or trailer with the option to buy the bike at the end. Richmond upon Thames is now home to ten community cargo bikes.
We partnered with OurBike to offer a cargo bike hire scheme as an affordable, sustainable alternative to motor vehicles. There are locations across the borough and the first 60 minutes ride is free for all new users.
Residents in the borough can also hire e-scooters under Transport for London’s public hire scheme. Users must start and end their journey at one of the designated parking locations using one of the operator’s mobile apps. Find out more about e-scooter charges and safety standards.
