Struggling to pay your annual fuel bills? We can help

2 December 2024

We are once again launching our annual Fuel Grant Scheme to help those struggling to pay fuel bills this winter.

Grants of up to £170 are now available to protect residents who are at risk from living in fuel poverty. If you are on benefits or have a low income you may be eligible for help with heating bills, even if you are already receiving help from elsewhere.

Find out more about the Fuel Grant Scheme, including who is eligible and how to apply.

Applications will be processed as they are received, and you will be notified if your application has been successful.

The closing date for applications is Friday 17 January 2025. Applications received after the closing date will not be processed.

You can apply online before midnight on 17 January. You will need to register online before you are able to make an online application.

If you are unable to apply online, you can collect an application form from your local library or from the Civic Centre in Twickenham. Application forms must be received by 5pm on 17 January.

If your application is successful, payment to your utility provider will be made in the week commencing 10 February 2025.

Additional support

In addition to our Fuel Grant Scheme, this year we are also offering £100 to all pensioners who receive a Council Tax reduction, but who are not eligible for the government’s winter fuel payments. Find out more about our winter fuel support for pensioners.

We are also running a targeted campaign to make sure all pensioners who are eligible for Pension Credit are claiming it. Pension Credit could be worth on average £3,900 per year for those who are over the State Pension Age, 66+ years. Claims can be backdated by up to three months, with the latest date to apply for the Winter Fuel Payment being 21 December 2024.

Support with the cost of living is available in Richmond. Residents can visit the Richmond Cost of Living Hub for the latest information on what is available nationally and locally as well as details of the borough’s network of community spaces and free support calculator. Residents can also sign up to receive cost of living support updates straight to their inbox.
