Fire stations and Pilates studio join Richmond Safe Haven network

Two fire stations and a Barnes Pilates studio have joined Richmond’s Safe Haven network, giving residents and visitors more places to turn if they feel unsafe or need support.

Richmond Fire Station, Twickenham Fire Station and RE:FORM Pilates London are the latest venues to join the scheme.

The fire stations provide round-the-clock Safe Haven locations, while RE:FORM Pilates London, on Station Road in Barnes, offers another place where people can seek help during opening hours.

Safe Havens are approved businesses, public buildings and community venues where anyone feeling vulnerable, intimidated or unwell can ask for assistance.

Staff receive training to respond sensitively and offer appropriate support. This may include providing somewhere safe to pause, helping someone contact a trusted person or supporting them to continue their journey safely.

The scheme was first piloted in Barnes in 2025 and has since expanded across the borough. Participating venues display a Safe Haven sticker so they can be recognised easily.

Councillor Rhi Lee, Richmond Council’s White Ribbon Champion, said:

“Everyone deserves to feel confident, safe and supported when they are out in Richmond upon Thames. By growing the Safe Haven network, we are creating a stronger, more visible safety net across the borough, with trusted places where people can step inside, take a moment and get practical help when they need it.

“I am delighted that Richmond Fire Station, Twickenham Fire Station and RE:FORM Pilates London have joined the scheme – adding to the 16 other organisations that already offer Safe Havens in our borough. Their commitment makes support easier to spot and reach, giving residents and visitors greater confidence that help is nearby if they ever feel unsafe or need assistance.”

We also operate a weekly pop-up Safe Space outside Richmond train station. The green marquee is open on Fridays from 8 to 11pm, providing a visible point of support during the night-time period.

Anyone feeling vulnerable can stop there for reassurance, practical help or a safe place to wait before travelling home.
