Stop adult abuse and neglect this Safeguarding Adults Week

19 November 2024

Safeguarding is everyone's business. We believe that working in partnership with our communities allows us to share our knowledge of safeguarding, learn from others and ultimately create safer cultures.

Safeguarding Adults Week 2024 takes place from Monday 18 to Friday 22 November. The annual event is a time for our community to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues.

What safeguarding means

Safeguarding means protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of adults at risk, enabling them to live safely, free from abuse and neglect. It is also making sure that the adult’s wellbeing is supported and their views, wishes, feelings and beliefs are respected when agreeing on any action.

Abuse and neglect

Can you recognise the signs of adult abuse or neglect? Abuse and neglect could fall under a number of categories, including domestic, physical, psychological and/or emotional, economic, or sexual. Some signs such as unexplained bruising might be evident, but more subtle signs like a change in personality are less obvious.
